Actually, to resolve this issue, I wound up calling HP tech support, instead of downloading the driver. My computer would detect the drive but wasnt able to use it. Well anyway, here is your PC homepage: It is the same as the link above. The new driver Rich attached couldn’t see the drive. I have uninstalled the driver, deleted the drive, reinstalled both and even changed the registry and it still does not work.

Thank you Damien, Worked perfect My DVD showed up in Safe mode but had trouble in a regular boot up. I tried to uninstall the device, but the problem persisted.
It happens almost everytime an update downloads from Microsoft to my computer and almost everytime I install a new program on gxa-4084. I still am having the same issues – I can read dvds but not cds which of course means I can’t install most applications.
From what I’ve heard this is actually a problem caused by Microsoft and it’s software and not actually a problem caused by HP. Let HP Tech Support answer this one for you! Before doing anything else, you can try this simple process: When I update from windows or nero I choose custom instalation and it is true that when I have updated itunes it starts again with the problems so no gsa-084 while it works.

The only way it works in my case is by not downloading any windows updates specially the windows player ones. Since chaning the registry area can be dangerous to the health of your computer! I tried gsa-404 expensive different DVDs and it is a software conflict for sure. Once you have uninstalled them. However I only had an “upperfilter” in that folder I’ve had to reinstall the driver more times than I can count. I was recently having some trouble with my DVD Drive too. Uninstalling the driver didn’t help.
It actually apparently comes down to a bug in Windows itself software and yet despite the numerous complaints Microsoft apparently has no intention of coming up with a permenant fix for this problem for all of gsx-4084.
